The basis of all the reports and other printing projects is provided by the so-called report templates. These can be organized in clearly-presented file structures and protected by access rights. Within these individual report templates, the data source on which the report is based is then selected.
In doing this, you can choose from a variety of possible database systems (e.g. Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, DB2) and files (e.g. Access, Excel, CSV) as data sources.
Once set up, reports can then be created and sent in a planned way, for example on the first of each month a report can be automatically saved to a directory or sent via email.
combit Report Server is a flexible, scalable and reliable report creation system which can be integrated seamlessly into your IT infrastructure. combit Report Server is installed on a Windows Server operating system; for internal databases, combit Report Server requires a database server (Microsoft SQL Server or PostgreSQL). To spread the load, so-called worker services can be installed on additional computers.
combit Report Server is then accessed by the user direct via the browser.
The actual reports or print templates are created and processed in the Ad-hoc designer or in the combit Report Server Designer. The combit report Server Designer is a Windows application, which is normally called up directly from the associated report templates. The Ad-hoc Designer is a browser application. The data defined in the report template is available in both designers to prepare it for output in different ways. The Designer thus always relies on data which are supplied by combit Report Server, i.e. the data are selected and compiled based on the definition of the report template in combit Report Server.
The Report Server Designer provides the project types lists, labels, and cards; the Ad-hoc Designer knows tables and diagrams. The projects contain objects for the output of text, images, tables, etc.
