Server installation

Tip: Administration rights will be required for installation. The installation program must perform the installation process.

1. Prior to installation, close any applications that are running on the system. During the installation procedure, disable all anti-virus software.

2. Insert the DVD in the DVD drive and follow the instructions. If installation does not start automatically, you can start it by double-clicking the file "setup.exe".

3. Destination folder: Enter a server directory as the installation directory.

4. Feature selection: Now select "Install Report Server". For more information on installing the Worker Service, refer to Section 1.2.3 Worker Service installation.

5. Database System Selection: combit Report Server requires a database server (Microsoft SQL Server or PostgreSQL). If an already available instance should be used, the specification of the database server and the associated login information for the database administrator can be entered after the installation. Setup will then be able to create the system database on the database server.

▪ Installing Microsoft SQL Server Express Edition: After selecting this option, Setup will install a new English instance of Microsoft SQL Server Express on the computer. This option will perform the installation smoothly regardless of whether installations of MSSQL are already available or not, which is the reason for recommending it.

A new named SQL Express instance, called "CMBTREPORTSERVER" will be installed with the user “sa”. You must enter a password for this user.

▪ Installing PostgreSQL: If you want to use PostgreSQL server, it must first be downloaded and installed. combit Report Server should be installed afterwards.

Cache Folder: Select the storage location for the temporary files. Please note that this folder´s size can quickly increase to several gigabytes.

Installation wizard: After the server has been installed, the installation wizard will prepare combit Report Server for initial start-up.

Enter the database connection that should be used for setting up the internal database:

▪ Under Server, enter the name of the database server that was installed during setup.

Important: When using PostgreSQL as a database system (for the system database), the IP address of the Report Server system must be stored in the pg_hba.conf file of the PostgreSQL installation before proceeding with the installation of the Report Server. For more information, see https://www.postgresql.org/docs/current/auth-pg-hba-conf.html.

In addition, a new database user, "cmbtreportserver_user", will be created, which will be used by combit Report Server. Enter a password for this user. This password should not be changed in the future.

6. Set up the administrator account: Set the password for the Administrator account and enter an e-mail address.

7. Entering the license key: The required license information can be found in the "PersonalLicense.txt" file in the main directory of your List & Label installation.

8. After installation, combit Report Server Designer can be installed on the workstations. For more information on installation, refer to Chapter combit Report Server Designer.
