As an alternative to Windows authentication for API access, a separate Report Server user account can be used. This account cannot be used on the normal login page. Similarly, a general user account (integrated authentication) cannot be used for API access either.
Proceed as follows:
1. Create a user in the user administration and during "Configure registration", choose the authentication type "API account with token" and confirm by choosing "continue".
2. Generate and define a new client token with "Apply". Copy this token. The token cannot be displayed again, if you generate a new token then the token used so far will become invalid and all clients will need to be reconfigured!
