To ensure that users of screen readers and other assistive technologies can understand a document and navigate through it, its content must have a logical, machine-readable structure.
Accessible PDF documents can be created using PDF export and the PDF/UA format. However, simply choosing the export format does not guarantee accessibility. The content must be structured and formatted appropriately right from the design stage of the report template.
Accessible templates should therefore include the following:
▪ clear heading and content structures
▪ a logical reading order
▪ meaningful alternative text for relevant images
▪ clear table structures
▪ supplementary text or symbols to accompany color-coded markings
▪ clear and consistent language
▪ headings should not only be visually highlighted but also semantically marked as such
▪ Tables should be created as table objects and should not consist of individually positioned text elements
▪ A color-coded status indicator should also include a clear label such as "Open" or "Completed".
For all objects without text content (image, barcode, chart, PDF, rectangle, etc.), the "Accessibility description text" property is available. Enter a meaningful description of the content here.
Check both the report template and the exported PDF document for accessibility.
