Pie and donut chart limitations
Pie and donut charts in List & Label Cross Platform (LLCP) are rendered using ScottPlot. As a result, some rendering behavior differs from Classic, and some features are currently limited by the capabilities of ScottPlot.
Note
"Pie chart" is used throughout this article as an umbrella term for both the pie and donut variants.
Differences compared to Classic
- Color rendering: When a color palette is repeated, Cross Platform rendering uses alpha compositing of multiple color layers. This results in stronger and more distinguishable colors, especially for charts with many data points.
- Minimum percentage and ascending sorting: In Cross Platform rendering, pie charts sorted in ascending order include and display segments with a configured minimum percentage of 0% or 1%. Classic rendering applies an effective internal lower limit, causing very small values to be grouped or omitted as individual segments. In the reference project, segments become visible at approximately 1.7%.
- Legend positioning: Positioning the legend on the chart outside the pie segments is not supported. When this option is used, the legend is rendered to the right of the pie chart.
- Separator lines: In Classic rendering, separator lines color is automatically derived from each segment color using a darker shade. In Cross Platform rendering, separator lines are configured for the entire pie chart and use a single color for all segments. Separator lines are gray by default for pie charts only; half pie charts do not display separator lines.
Limitations
- Shadows: Shadow rendering is not supported.
- Fonts: Strikethrough text is not supported.
- Borders:
- All border lines are rendered as solid lines.
- All sides of a border currently use the line pattern, color, and width configured for the top border.
- Rounded border corners are not supported.
- Perspective gradient — Highlight edge: Classic's Perspective gradient option includes a Highlight edge sub-setting that renders a shaded/embossed border around each slice. This sub-setting is not supported.
- Gridlines:
- Line patterns may visually differ from Classic rendering.
- Not all gridline patterns are supported.
- Colors and backgrounds:
- Fixed color assignments for chart elements are not supported.
- Label backgrounds only support solid colors. Patterns and gradients are not supported.
- Legend:
- A separate legend title is not supported.
- Underlined text in legend entries is not rendered when the legend is drawn inside the chart, even if underline formatting is defined for the font.
- Titles: Chart titles can only be centered. Additional title positions and alignments supported by Classic are not available.
- Labels on object: The distance of slice labels from the center of the pie chart can only be configured globally and cannot be adjusted individually per slice. Therefore, the label collision avoidance strategy used in Classic cannot be applied. Charts with many small adjacent segments may result in overlapping labels.
- 3D representations: 3D chart representations are not supported.
